DNS Checker
This free DNS checker looks up any record type for a domain and shows the live answer, with its TTL, straight from public DNS.
What is a DNS lookup?
A DNS lookup asks the internet's address book what a domain points to: which server hosts the website, which servers take its email, and which settings it publishes.
Every browser and mail server does this before it connects anywhere. When a site won't load or mail goes missing, checking the records is usually the quickest way to find out why.
Which record type should I check?
A and AAAA records give the website's IPv4 and IPv6 address. CNAME makes one name an alias of another. MX lists the servers that receive email.
TXT records carry verification codes and email security (SPF, DKIM, DMARC). NS shows who runs the domain's DNS, SOA holds the zone's admin details, and CAA says which certificate authorities may issue SSL certificates for it.
Frequently asked questions
I just changed a record. Why do I still see the old value?
Resolvers cache answers for the record's TTL (time to live). Until that runs out, some of them keep serving the old value. Use the DNS propagation checker to compare several resolvers at once.
What does NXDOMAIN mean?
NXDOMAIN means the name doesn't exist in DNS at all. Check for typos, and check that the domain is registered and its nameservers are set.
Which DNS resolver does this tool use?
We ask Cloudflare's public resolver (1.1.1.1) and fall back to Google (8.8.8.8) if it doesn't answer, so you see what most of the internet sees.
Is this DNS lookup free?
Yes. No signup and no limits for normal use, and we don't store the domains you check.
