Virtualizor allows you to attach an ISO image to your VPS and boot from it. This is useful for installing a custom operating system, running a live recovery environment, or performing low-level diagnostics. Mounting an ISO is an advanced operation — if you only need to reinstall the operating system with a standard template, use the Reinstall OS feature instead.
What you will need
- A KVM-based VPS (ISO mounting is not available on OpenVZ or LXC)
- An ISO image available in the Virtualizor ISO library (managed by the server administrator)
- Access to VNC to interact with the ISO environment
Step 1 — Browse available ISOs
- Log in to the Virtualizor Enduser Panel.
- Open the management page for your VPS.
- Click the ISO icon in the management toolbar (or navigate to Manage VPS → ISO in the sidebar).
- A list of ISOs available on the server will be displayed. The list is maintained by the TPC Hosting server administrator — if you require a specific ISO that is not listed, contact TPC Hosting support and request that it be added.
Step 2 — Mount the ISO
- In the ISO list, select the ISO image you want to attach to your VPS.
- Click Mount ISO. Virtualizor will attach the ISO to the VPS as a virtual CD-ROM drive.
Step 3 — Boot from the ISO
- Return to the VPS management page.
- Click Restart (or Stop followed by Start) to reboot the VPS.
- On the next boot, the VPS will start from the mounted ISO rather than the installed operating system.
Step 4 — Access the ISO environment via VNC
- On the VPS management page, click the VNC icon to open the browser-based VNC console.
- You will see the ISO boot screen — interact with it as you would a physical machine booting from a CD or USB drive.
- Follow the installer or live environment instructions to complete your task.
Step 5 — Unmount the ISO after use
- After the installation or task is complete, return to the ISO management page.
- Click Unmount ISO. This removes the virtual CD-ROM from the VPS.
- Restart the VPS. It will now boot from the installed operating system on the virtual disk rather than the ISO.
Important: if you do not unmount the ISO, the VPS will attempt to boot from it again on the next restart, which may cause an unintended re-installation loop.
Caution
- Rebooting the VPS to boot from an ISO will interrupt all running services. Schedule this operation during a maintenance window.
- If you are installing a new operating system from an ISO, all data on the primary disk will be overwritten. Back up any important data before proceeding.
Troubleshooting
- ISO option is not visible: ISO mounting is only available for KVM VPS instances. If your VPS uses OpenVZ or LXC, this feature is not available.
- The ISO is not in the list: the ISO library is managed by TPC Hosting. Contact support to request that a specific ISO be added.
- VPS boots into the old OS instead of the ISO: confirm the ISO was mounted successfully before restarting. Return to the ISO management page to verify the mount status.
