Virtualizor includes a built-in backup and restore interface that lets you create point-in-time snapshots of your VPS and roll back to them if something goes wrong. Backup availability depends on whether TPC Hosting has enabled backups for your specific VPS plan — if you do not see the Backup option, contact TPC Hosting support to confirm whether backups are included.
How to access the backup interface
- Log in to the Virtualizor Enduser Panel.
- Click List VPS and open the management page for your VPS.
- Click the Backup icon in the management toolbar. The backup wizard will open, showing any existing backups and the option to create a new one.
How to take a manual backup
- On the backup page, click Backup Now.
- Virtualizor will begin creating a backup of your VPS disk. A progress indicator will appear.
- Wait for the process to complete. Do not shut down or restart the VPS during the backup — interrupting the process may produce a corrupt backup file.
- When the backup finishes, it will appear in the list with a timestamp.
How to view existing backups
The backup wizard lists all available backups for your VPS. Each entry shows:
- The date and time the backup was created
- The size of the backup file
- Action icons to restore or delete the backup
How to restore from a backup
- In the backup list, find the backup you want to restore.
- Click the Restore icon (a circular arrow or a restore symbol) next to that backup entry.
- A confirmation prompt will appear. Read it carefully — restoring will overwrite the current state of the VPS with the backup snapshot.
- Click Confirm to start the restore process.
- Virtualizor will stop the VPS, restore the disk image, and restart it. This may take several minutes depending on the disk size.
- Once the restore completes, log in to the VPS and verify that everything is working as expected.
Important notes about backups
- Additional volumes are not included: the built-in backup covers only the primary VPS disk. Any additional volumes attached to the VPS are not backed up automatically. Back up important data on additional volumes manually or with your own backup solution.
- Do not interrupt the process: shutting down the VPS or closing the browser during a backup or restore may cause data loss or a corrupt backup.
- Backups are stored on the host node: if the physical server experiences a hardware failure, the backup may also be affected. For critical data, maintain at least one additional off-site backup.
How often should you back up?
- For production websites or applications, back up at least once per day before making any significant changes.
- Back up immediately before any major update — operating system upgrades, application deployments, or configuration changes.
- If your VPS plan includes automatic scheduled backups configured by TPC Hosting, manual backups still provide an additional safety net before risky operations.
Troubleshooting
- Backup Now button is missing: backups may not be enabled for your plan. Contact TPC Hosting support to confirm and request that backups be enabled.
- Backup is taking a very long time: backup speed depends on disk size and host load. Large VPS disks can take 10–30 minutes. If the backup appears stuck for more than an hour, contact TPC Hosting support.
- Restore failed: contact TPC Hosting support immediately. Provide the VPS ID, the backup timestamp, and any error messages shown on screen.
