File Manager lets you compress files into an archive and extract archives directly in your browser — no FTP client required.

Compress files or folders

  1. Log in at https://tpc-hosting.com/login and open cPanel.
  2. Under Files, click File Manager.
  3. Navigate to the folder containing the files you want to compress.
  4. Select the files or folders you want to include — tick the checkbox next to each item, or select all with Select All.
  5. Click Compress in the toolbar.
  6. Choose the archive format:
    • Zip Archive (.zip) — most compatible, works on all operating systems
    • Gzip (.tar.gz) — standard on Linux servers
    • Bzip2 (.tar.bz2) — smaller size, slower to compress
  7. Set the archive name and click Compress File(s).

The archive is created in the current directory.

Extract an archive

  1. Navigate to the folder containing the archive (.zip, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2).
  2. Select the archive file.
  3. Click Extract in the toolbar.
  4. Specify the destination path, or leave it blank to extract into the current directory.
  5. Click Extract File(s).

Tips

  • Compressing a large number of files before downloading saves significant transfer time.
  • When deploying a WordPress site or moving files between directories, zip the entire folder and extract at the destination — much faster than moving files individually.
  • Archives created in File Manager can be downloaded directly: right-click the archive → Download.
