The New Outlook for Windows is a redesigned, web-based version of Outlook. It is available as a free app on Windows 11 (version 22H2 and later) and can also be installed on Windows 10. It looks different from the classic ribbon Outlook — if you see a traditional ribbon interface, follow the Outlook for Microsoft 365 / Outlook 2021 guide instead.

What you will need

  • Your full email address (e.g. you@yourdomain.com)
  • Your email password
  • Your mail server hostname — find this in cPanel under Email Accounts → Connect Devices. It is typically mail.yourdomain.com.

Add the account

  1. Open the New Outlook app.
  2. Click the Settings gear icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Go to Accounts and click Add account.
  4. Type your full email address and click Continue.
  5. If automatic detection does not find your settings, choose IMAP when prompted to select an account type.

Enter the server settings

  • Incoming mail (IMAP)
    • Server: mail.yourdomain.com
    • Port: 993
    • Encryption: SSL/TLS
  • Outgoing mail (SMTP)
    • Server: mail.yourdomain.com
    • Port: 465
    • Encryption: SSL/TLS

Enter your password and click Continue. Once the account is verified it will appear in the left-hand sidebar.

Important note about mail routing

The New Outlook for Windows routes all email through Microsoft servers, even for third-party accounts. Your email credentials are stored with Microsoft. If keeping your email data off Microsoft infrastructure is a requirement, use the classic Outlook (Microsoft 365 or Outlook 2021) or Mozilla Thunderbird instead.

Troubleshooting

  • If port 465 is rejected, try SMTP port 587 with STARTTLS.
  • Verify the exact server hostname in cPanel: Email Accounts → Connect Devices.
